Eva sings on Monday 24 August

Eva sings at Dreamboat on Monday 24 August, from 6pm.

She’s a science student from North Wales who has been singing since she was young. Her school specialised in the performing arts, and she sang in its live-streamed rock show and its band nights, as well as regularly in the choir. She’s writing songs of her own at the moment.

This set isn’t those, though — not yet. It’s alternative pop and folk rock, and in her own words: “some songs you’ll definitely know and love, and others you might not have come across.”

Expect Fairport Convention, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles and Lana Del Rey, among others.

That last list is worth a second look, because it’s a wider span than it first appears. Fairport Convention more or less invented English folk rock in the late sixties — electric guitars pointed at songs that were centuries old. Lana Del Rey is about as contemporary a reference as you can pick. Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles sit in between and belong to everybody.

Choosing all four, and meaning it, is the interesting thing here. It suggests someone who has gone looking rather than someone playing the obvious ones — and it’s a promising sign for the songs she’s working on.

Free entry, no tickets. Bar open, sourdough pizza all evening. Sunset at 20:25.

There may be a second night on Thursday the 27th — that one isn’t confirmed yet, so check back nearer the time.
